I enjoy hearing from other feminists and learning about their experiences so I appreciated the authors honesty here. I didn’t feel as though I gained anything new by reading this or as if this is any kind of revelatory or new take on modern feminism. Much of the sentences and art read like social media posts regurgitated into a book and I was hoping for more depth for long form content such as a 200+ page book.

I think Florence Given makes many good points which, whilst not necessarily new, are important. However, I feel like it was quite entry-level feminism, the sort of thing I would want to give to a teenage daughter if I had one, rather than a book to develop the thinking of someone who has read more feminist literature and been engaged with this way of thinking for longer. I also found some of the tone patronising - I don’t want to be called hun or babe, and referring to anyone and everyone as an icon - and I found some parts of it bordering on preachy or hypocritical. Worth it for a younger person though, for whom this might be their first exposure to some of these ideas and values.

this book is so full of hard truths and really made me look introspectively at my bias, privilege, and internalised misogyny. i love florence given, she radiates such joy and enthusiasm and listening to her narrate this audio book felt like a big sister giving me advice.

This book was good, but from the title alone I had expected more. Maybe more feminist insides, more theories, more opinions, more viewpoints.
This book contains a lot of advice around dating which I didn’t expect necessarily.
It contained a lot of advice I already knew or could think of myself.
So this book wasn’t really groundbreaking but it was fun to listen to and a good introductory to feminist literature.

I really liked the book. And I think I understand the hype. There wasn’t a lot of new information for me personally. But it got me thinking about some of my friendships in a new way, even though the content is more about “partner”-relationships. I feel very empowered and would like to read the chapters that were missing in this tiny version.
Graphic: Body shaming, Biphobia, and Sexual harassment
Moderate: Ableism, Racism, Toxic relationship, Sexual violence, Physical abuse, Outing, Homophobia, Gaslighting, and Emotional abuse
Minor: Sexism, Rape, Sexual harassment, and Sexual assault
It’s a lighthearted approach to the problems modern women* face in our patriarchal society. With helpful “tips” to overcome our own internalised misogyny and recognise our own faults as well as setting boundaries for ourselves.
