OK, I've read it and I must confess I didn't know him and haven't read his works. Also I'm not really into creepy and horrible side of books. Reading "Dagon" seriously gave me chills. Lovecraft's way of ramping up the creepiness and then hitting you with that terrifying sea monster was just spine-tingling. I couldn’t shake the feeling of dread as I read through it. It felt like I was right there with the writer, facing something totally beyond the ordinary. The fact that he tied in the impact of those ancient hieroglyphics, and how they mess with the narrator’s mind, just added another layer of mind-blowing horror. And considering this was written right after World War I, you can really feel the psychological weight of the time in it. It made the story even more unsettling.

Tis was one of my first H.P. Lovecraft stories. I must say, it was a good intro into the Cthulhu Mythos.
The story is not as suspenseful as you might expect but it is very good in setting the tone and vibe for the Cthulhu mythos.
It left me wanting to further explore these stories.

This story never stood out to me as particularly strong, maybe because later stories like The Shadow Over Innsmouth and The Call of Cthulhu expand on it's concepts in more interesting ways; but I'm glad I re-read it!
It was a nice concentrated shot of fishy cosmic horror

HP Lovecraft is one of my favourite authors, but this editions has a horrible, horrible translation, and I would not recommend it to any of my fellow Greeks. Not gonna rate it for this very reason.
