"The Picture of Dorian Gray" is a poetic mixture of philosophy, fantasy, crime and fiction. A great example of engaging and gripping literature.

Oscar Wilde is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. Anyone who can succeed at so many different types of literautre is ok in my book.

the rare case of an incredibly good novel being somehow less interesting than the author's life story

great story! i never knew where this was going at any given point, and wilde’s prose is astoundingly modern. it felt like i was reading a book only slightly older than mainstream bestsellers, which is remarkable for a book from the 19th century. wilde’s verbiage in particular is really something to note here, descriptions aren’t overly flowery, but there’s a real intention of craft behind all of them that give you concrete images without overburdening the page.

I'm re-reading this one because it's one of my favorites and just felt compelled to pick it up again.
