I was really looking forward to Dante’s book and got even more excited when I realized his mate would be Cherry. That storyline always felt unfinished to me somehow so I love that she came back. That said, the pacing of the book was off. It felt like the author wasn’t sure how the story would go. I actually felt like the first third of the book didn’t match the tone of the rest of it. I’m having a hard time explaining what exact felt off about it. I was also bothered by the dub con, especially considering the previous books tried so carefully to avoid it, plus even through this book their actions felt inconsistent to what they characters said. Dante wanted to be so careful with his mate and prepared so much before going to search for her, but then acted like a bit of an asshole after biting her. She had just escaped 5 years of captivity and he didn’t show enough care or grace to her at the beginning in my opinion. I also don’t think her trauma was handled at all. The loneliness was mentioned often but not the actual trauma. Lastly, the ending was extremely rushed and I will probably be angry for a while that we didn’t get a real prologue.

Spoilers:
- I’m mad she gave her kidnapper a sort of pre-forgiveness. He better not show up as a mmc in a future book!
- Why would they go off to have sexy time after finding out he knows her family instead of taking her home right away? She’s been gone for 5 years and she had zero sense of urgency to get home. And he know her family thought she was dead but they had to go off to have sex instead of taking home??
- this book has one of my least favorite trope where the MCs know something the other doesn’t know that would change everything, in this case that she was Cin’s sister. It annoyed me so much that they didn’t figure out until the end.

CW: kidnapping, dub con, dead parents, drugging, forced fighting

Ahh I love Kimberly Lemming’s books so muchhhh
I didn’t love this one quite as much as the others sadly but I still really enjoyed it and had a great timee :) I’m not sure if I can put my finger on exactly what put me off a bit but I think in part it was the miscommunication and the ways that Cherry kept missing that Dante and everyone knew her sister. I just felt it to be unnecessary and kinda took me out of the story.
I also felt the different essentially enslaved creatures in both Gideon and Dante’s realms was kinda a weird detail and just felt really unnecessary

Also while they are addressed and dealt with fairly well I still didn’t love the power dynamics of Cherry almost immediately being bonded with Dante against her will and generally made it more difficult to feel comfortable with the rest of their story.
I feel like writing this I’m kinda talking myself into liking it less sadly lol but at least as of now I did overall have a good time reading it just definitely wasn’t a perfect read like some of her other books have been for me.
