Whoo wee this is a tense audiobook! Narrated by actor Steven Weber, it takes you through a very scary, emotionally taxing few (fictional) hours of an airplane ride with an ongoing hostage situation. You live through the viewpoints of the pilot and his crew as they navigate how to survive in the air, as well as that of his wife and the FBI agents who face equal dangers on solid ground. With backstories of the terrorists interwoven, right vs. wrong, live vs. die…it all becomes a hazy gray area where you feel something for each character, no matter how much you disagree with their course of action.

If you’re looking for a great performance in an audiobook with a thriller/action storyline, this may be one to check-out. Prepare to step aboard one high-flying thrill ride!

You just boarded a flight to New York.

There are one hundred and forty-three other passengers onboard.

What you do not know is that thirty minutes before the flight your pilot's family was kidnapped. For his family to live, everyone on your plane must die. The only way the family will survive is if the pilot follows his orders and crashes the plane.

Enjoy the flight.

The first few chapters really interested me, but the more I read the worse it got. There were so many cliches on masculinity and America in this one. And the characters were so stereotypical and one dimensional. It was also so cheesy at times. There were also several convenient coincidences that helped move the plot along, but some things were just too convenient. The premise was definitely very interesting and this had potential to be an edge-of-your-seat thriller but somehow fell short. This book/plot would probably be better as a movie. Falling is still a pretty good, average read if you  can get past some of the predictability, coincidences, cliches and stereotypes. I do give Newman props for sending her book to 41 agents and never gave up on getting her book published and I cannot wait to read her other books.

A decent thriller wrapped up in some truly nauseating 9-11 circle-jerk, american hero fantasy bullshit. It's... mediocre.

I was excited to read this book as it was written by a flight attendant. I'm sorry to say, it was definitely written by a flight attendant. I just couldn't take the number for cliches packed into one book. I thought I was reading the most predictable remake of 24 combined with Air Force One.

Still better than The Book Thief, though.

Book club book for September! Whew! I was tense the whole time reading this but it was great! Very glad I waited until after my recent flight to read this! And very interesting to read right after going to the 9/11 memorial and museum.
