A real nasty piece of work, that's probably trying to do just a bit too much. King isn't really able to make the Dodd thing work and, honestly, the story doesn't need it. A minor quibble. This is still really good.

Even though this book is knows as the author's most classics, it didn't stand the test of time amazingly. The story starts off veeery slow paced, sometimes you feel like what you are reading is just a waste of time that goes on for pages. But towards the end, the intensity is cranked up at maximum. The final chapters are going to be engraved in my mind for ever.
The characters are pretty forgettable,  Nothing too special about them, but I get the feeling that it was in the author's intentions to make them as human and normal as possible. Completely different from the movie's '83 adaptation, I think it's worth reading for the ending (being one of the most traumatizing of his books)
And because it is after all, part of the classics.

This book sucked because the dog dies, I’d much rather all the people die. It was a good, suspenseful story, but there was so much filler I didn’t care about; I think it would be better as a novella.

Another reread of a King novel.

Y'know, a rabid dog isn't evil or scary. It's just something unfortunate and sad that happened to poor Cujo and some people around him. That's what happens in this book. A sick doggo and lot of unfortunate and sad things. On finishing it, I think I was just as bummed out as I was the first time. Only this time I already knew I was going to be bummed out and getting there wasn't suspenseful or entertaining.

Sigh. What a downer.

The only thing that really piqued my interest this time around was Vic and Roger's adventure in the advertising trade. I was looking forward to them making their pitch, a la Mad Men, to bring closure to the Sharp Cereal Professor campaign. But I felt short-changed on that subplot when Vic and Roger were informed by telegram that they were keeping the account without the need of presenting a pitch.

Also, I was was hoping that asshole Steve Kemp would go to Camber's garage to take one last parting shot at Donna and get mauled by the dog. No such luck. The only true villain in the book gets off relatively scot free.

There are plenty of good and great Stephen King books to choose from. This is not one of those.
