This book is a tad misleading...

It is more a biography of Dr. Bass than an account of the "Body Farm". Though it does detail how it came to be and what role it played in the development of forensic science, it was more a recounting of the life and cases of Dr. Bass.

Not that the story does not stand on its own, just not what I expected.

I was beyond impressed with the amount of information in this book!

This was a little bit different than I thought it would be, in that it was more of a recounting of Bass’ most interesting cases and not an account of The Body Farm. It’s entertaining and interesting, if a little bit gross (and gained me some strange looks while listening to it when I pulled out of my office parking garage), and it certainly touches on the research lab, but it’s not the story of the lab. Still worth the time.

I’ve always been fascinated with forensic science, it ties in quite nicely with my love of true crime! Reading this book was so interesting, the different things you can learn from a human body while and after it’s decomposing is just beyond mind blowing. I was slightly disappointed by this book though, I wanted to know more about the Body Farm itself and its inner workings and less about the crimes themselves. But other than that I really loved this and I highly recommend it!

I read this back when it was first published. I enjoyed it, but remember wanting it to be more technical and like more medically based literature. I remember thinking that it had been "dumbed down" to make it more interesting to a wider audience. I had wanted something more at a college or grad school level; something that would have been readable for a medical audience.

I'm giving it a star as it made me sleep at 4am today when I was having a bout of insomnia.

A very interesting look into the beginning of the FBIs Body Farm. I certainly learned a lot about forensic anthropology while reading this book.
