In deciding to re-read this I was delighted to find a brand-spanking-new introduction by the author wherein he talks at length about how wonderful summers could be for kids in 1960, specifically in terms of how much slow time they had and the glorious ways they could spend it roaming around their towns. Sadly, the author laments, this is not so true in our present day. Slow time sure is important to overall balance in life and I remember my own slow time in the 1970's as a youngling with a bike and several good friends. Bikes were essential. I'll update this after I finish the re-read.

How could I give this anything but five stars? Fully fleshed out characters, seems exactly like what it would be like to be a 12 year old in 1960! I could visualize everything in my mind as Dan laid it out! Great bad guys/monsters! A gang of kids banding together to solve it (I see why it gets compared to IT a lot and it's worthy of being compared). The ending was good! Wrapped up nicely, as I think a lot of Stephen King's don't do 😳. It was a beautiful book! I often think if I can picture a book as a movie in my mind then it was written well!
