This is also quite possibly one of the DARKEST Romantasy series I’ve read…..and I’ve read some seriously dark stuff (ie: Sinners & Angels by Luna Peirce..IYKYK). MJ pulls no punches in this series.
In Book 1, Lies of Fae, we are introduced our main characters: Cyrus (shadow daddy leader of the Fae Mafia in England), Reid (grumpy & overprotective “human” Authority agent), and Raven (lowly Fae thief just trying to protect her “sister”) In this version of England the Fae are subservient to the the humans who control them through their governing agency The Authority. Book one focuses on building the world and diving into the concept of fated mates and the fae rebellion.
In book two, Fall of the Fae, we watch Raven evolve and grow into her powers. We also get a front row seat to the dramatic developments of her relationship with Reid and Cyrus. Yes I said AND. Oh, did I forget to mention this is a reverse harem……my bad. Please enjoy!
After we are left with the mother of all plot twists at the end of book two, we are make it to book three, Wrath of the Fae. The title really tells it all. This is the story where all of the emotional wounds from Books 1 & 2 are avenged. It doesn’t happen quickly though. There are some serious battles. The betrayal seems to come from all sides and always right when you think things are just starting to look up for our most loved characters.
As you read, I would suggest you keep checking your page count or percentage, and apply the Law and Order Rule. If you think you solved it and you know who the bad guy is or how it will end and see you are only half way through, just know your wrong.
MJ Lawrie is the is the dark mistress of plot twists & will have you on the edge of your seat both loving & hating her the entire way.
SPOILER: It’s totally worth the crazy roller coaster ride to get to the end.
The ONLY reason this didn't make my five star mark was that I felt that the overall volume of non-consensual scenes, & I mean true non-consensual…not CNC Haunting Adeline style, was a bit much for me.
Given my statement above, please be warned this is a very VERY dark series. Please read the trigger warnings carefully & prepare yourself mentally. This is a war between humans, fae, gods, monsters, & more. War is brutal and brings out the darkest sides of humanity. MJ tells it all (in detail) & holds nothing back.
If you’ve gotten to this point & have not been scared away yet….go ahead. Add to cart.

It's a no for me, dawg. I'm out.
The premise sounded really interesting, but I just can't make this work. Cause if this is 10% in, who knows how much worse it will get.

Also, I am not against sexual content in books, but making the plot revolve around sex is boring. Many other things bothered me, but I will refrain from discussing most of them. I found the plot predictable, and the fighting scenes become more repetitive by the end. The pacing was too fast for me. Villainizing Russians is a tacky, overused, and borderline xenophobic trope. I will not be continuing the series. I only read this because it was free on Amazon, and I was in the mood for fantasy.
