Thoroughly enjoyed this. I bought it several years ago, but just got around to reading it. I had no idea what it was about, and was pleasantly surprised. Not as good as Kavalier and Clay, but a much easier, fun read.

What a gorgeously funny book. Every sentence is maximally written to have the most impact (usually ironic comedy) but the plot is engaging and weird enough to keep you reading through it quickly. Also definitely a product of the second Bush administration

I really liked it but it was dense and slow to read sometimes. Also the twists were super far fetched and not very satisfying

I understand that a part of this book takes place in the 1940's.  Still, I did not appreciate the derogatory language, swearing, or vulgar descriptions.  Also, I felt the narration was overdone.  Davidson aimed for tough and mysterious, film nior, but his cadence often distracted from the storyline and left me confused as to who the characters were and how they related to one another.
