I love the Vampire Diaries. I read all the books and follow the tv show from the start. This comic is based on the tv show and that is obvious in the graphics. Drawn by various illustrators the characters clearly look like their tv counterparts. There is just one where this is not the case. The details in the illustrations differ in the different stories. As most of the stories were just a few pages you had to get used to a different style very quickly which kind of disturbed my experience with the book.
The stories are extra's. Based on things mentioned or situations that happened in the series but hardly every crossing it. Jumping from the now back to the past and so on. This was very disturbing as I had to guess who was a vampire or not and the relations between the people were different. This would not have been a problem if the stories would have been longer but now the change came to quick.

I hate to rate this so low but I have to be honest and say that very few of these stories felt interesting or necessary to me. I also only really liked the art style on a couple of them, whilst the others all seemed to stray into uncanny-valley-dark-realism style and I wasn't sure about it. Yes, I had a good time, but I think 2 stars is the right rating

NOTES & THOUGHTS
• This Graphic Novel is amazing! I’m not usually much of a comic/graphic novel/manga fan, because I much prefer a novel. I find that I don’t appreciate anything with images or artwork to visualise a story enough, as I fly through the writing and don’t pay attention to any of the accompanying graphics, as reading and looking at the graphics doesn’t come naturally to me. Because of this, a comic, manga or graphic novel has to be something really special in order to hold my attention in all aspects, rather than just the written elements. For me, this graphic novel did exactly that; I was so drawn into the storyline that it was easy to pay attention to the graphics as I didn’t want to miss anything.
• The artwork throughout this graphic novel was stunning, but fortunately not in a distracting way (when reading some comics and graphic novels in the past, I have found the graphics so visually pleasing that I have the opposite problem than my usual one; I get so distracted looking at it that I don’t pay any attention to what is happening at all). Having non-distracting yet still visually pleasing graphics is a huge complement.
• Now I have discussed my usual problems with graphic novels (and that I didn’t face any of them with this absolute beauty), I will discuss more about this graphic novel below.
• This graphic novel was unlike any that I have read before. Where most follow one singular storyline throughout its entirety, this was made up of multiple different storylines, that didn’t particularly relate to each other (other than that they were about some of the same characters: the ones we know and love as The Vampire Diaries fans).
• This storyline had great pacing - some stories were faster paced, while others were slower, but overall this was the exact pace it needed to be. It was so easy to get hooked on the storylines and fall in love with the characters all over again, and the pacing throughout really helped with that.
• There are so many other amazing things that I could say about this graphic novel, but overall I just want to recommend it to anyone who enjoys The Vampire Diaries. It's quick and easy to read, although there's a lot going on, and it is so enjoyable as well. The Vampire Diaries (books and series) are a comfort for me, and this Graphic Novel is no difference - it has (and probably always will have) a special place in my heart.

HIGHLIGHTS
•  I loved that this storyline was made up of lots of different storylines, rather than one main one. I thoroughly enjoyed all the storylines as well, as they gave us back stories, side stories and other stories about the characters we know and love. Some of the stories are ones I had wished I could read or watch (and I am so glad that I did), and others were stories I didn't even know I needed until I had read them.
•  I enjoyed the variety of storylines in this book; some are longer while others are shorter, some are emotion, others are more light-hearted, and some contain some dark themes. There isn't a focus on specific characters either - the majority of them feature on at least one of the stories this incredible graphic novel it made up from.
•  There are gorgeous graphics in this graphic novel, which clearly depict the characters and the storyline. I really enjoy the fact that they are not at all distracting from the main storyline, as well as being distracting enough for me to pay attention to them.

DOWNFALLS / NOT AS GOOD
• I don't know if this can really be counted as a downfall of this book, but I really wish there were so many more of these. Honestly, it inspired me to want to write my own The Vampire Diaries story!

Received a copy of this from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book. It is my true opinion only.

The illustrations in this graphic novel are simply amazing!
They are just like the characters from the TV show.
This contains untold stories from the series in a graphic novel form.
It was very entertaining.
I recommend for all Vampire Diaries fans.
I'd love to own my very own copy of this to be honest.

This was better than I was expecting. I like that there were short stories because when I was getting bored with a story it wasn't long until it ended.

I did like some of the stories and I liked the the art/illustrations (whatever it's called in a graphic novel). And I especially liked that I didn't have to actually put up with Elena for long. I prefer Katherine!

My local library doesn't have a copy of the second graphic novel but that's okay. I only picked this up to see if it was like the tv show. I didn't read the synopsis at all. So I was glad to find original stories.

Elena, Stefan and Damon make their comics debut in a new series based on the hit CW television show! This anthology graphic novel will bring some of comics' greatest talents to Mystic Falls and set them loose to bring the characters to life. Or death. They are vampires, you know.

I am not really a consistent fan of the show (in fact, I still have to watch from season 4 onwards, but keep up with the storyline through my peeps on Tumblr) but The Vampire Diaries has been quite a good TV series. Having read the books beforehand didn't make much of a difference, other than finding that the TV series has much better plot and character development. So, this graphic novel is basically a fan fiction anthology using the show's canon, similar to the Stefan's Diaries series. The artwork is not consistent throughout, but for the most part, it is visually appealing. It is quite a change from manga or regular graphic novel art, but it is good enough. The stories, though - all of them are pretty interesting. A few of them had a little plot inconsistencies, such as when Katherine almost led Damon away from his duty, or the camp one, but most of the stories - really good. I was drawn in and compelled (pun intended) to keep reading, one story after another. The timelines are all over the place, so knowing the show's storyline is a must, but otherwise, you can keep up, mostly. It also has a few spoilers, so if you aren't current with the fifth season and don't love being spoiled, my advice is to keep this off until you catch up. Otherwise, it is a good media tie-in graphic novel.

Received an ARC from DC Comics via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
