This book is an extremely stereotypical portrayal of bisexuality and open relationships. The MC is sooo selfish and treats everyone around her v poorly. There were elements I liked, but overall I would avoid this book. Also, poor Doug <3

There were parts of this novel I really enjoyed, like the discussions around bisexuality and gatekeeping within the community, Gina's rediscovery of her love of piano, and George's experimentation with her queer visual identity. But there were also parts I found too chaotic, particularly towards the end.

Georgina is the epitome of a "messy" protagonist and I don't mind messy characters at all, but when the plot starts to slide out of control and become messy too it feels like the story has lost its groundwork. It was also frustrating to watch the Georgina constantly lie to the people she cared about and treat them poorly; even when opportunities arose for her to tell the truth, she didn't take them. I guessed quite a few of the twists before they happened, but I did enjoy one particular thing (a date) that happened (and I'd been rooting for) right at the end.

I expected a lighthearted queer romcom, but it was more than that! At the beginning the characters, their thoughts ans conversations seemed unnatural to me but for me the first pages are always a bit odd. And once you pass those first chapters, the characters because more complex and the whole plot develops very natural and topics, relationships and feelings were displayed in a nuanced way! I really enjoyed reading the book and I would recommend it without hesitating one second! I could identify myself with the main character in many aspects and it was kind of wholesome to read the story.

Only thing which bothered me a bit, was that the main character was struggling with the death of their Dad and some panick attacks and I feel like a lot of authors use such background stories to give their characters depth. I know that writers are allowed to be creative and also that some of them actually share those experiences, but sometimes it makes me feel bad, because I feel like other people use those experiences somewhat instrumentally to paint a deeper character, which is just really hurtful for me personally. Does that make sense? I’m not sure whether I got my point across.

Anyways, the story made sense and in a lot of ways it was better than I expected! The main character was always hinting at their traumatic past and I already saw a plumb plot twist reveal, but everything evolved so naturally. And I was also positively surprised by the way the author treated the  open relationship topic and the bad girl(/boy) trope! Some sequences seemed a forced for educational purposes, but I didn’t mind, because books are a good way to make readers reflect and it wasn’t to unnatural overall!

This book really took me on an emotional journey and I had the urge to write those feelings and expressions down, hence this loooong review… Maybe I should get a journal instead…

Still really recovering from all the questioning my morale this book did on me - which for me is a sign of a very good book. I loved that Georgina can be unlikeable at times and you get angry at her decisions, I wrote so many annotations figuring out what I think would be a better choice or what would be a solution. Also, I absolutely loved Rudy. Like. Full-on obsessed. Also enjoyed the point the book made that some people are not meant to stay in your life forever, even if they were important for a big part of it (big Diane Nguyen flashbacks). Overall really recommend!!

I absolutely adored this book!

The main character being the same age (and similar name!) as me made me feel like I could connect with it more. It felt a lot more realistic as coming-out books tend to be centred more around teenagers rather than adults.

I loved the plot, the characters, everything. The character development is fantastic and the way the characters have their moments of realisation of exactly what they’re wanting out of life.

It’s such a light, easy, joyful read.
