I always forget when I start an Ali Hazelwood book just how millennial it is. Which isn't bad at all! But I forget sometimes the way that she weaves in pop culture and character traits can seem really cliche and childish, but within a few pages, I remember "It doesn't have to be that deep" and remind myself it is 1000% okay to be silly. That being said, this book eviscerated me. Elsie is me to a T (except for the theoretical physicist, which, rad, but I'm going for my doctorate in rhetorical studies). The way that she interacts with people is... so spot on. AND ANOTHER DEMI CHARACTER I COULD CRY. I think that is the number one reason why I read AH anyway. 1. Ace Rep, 2. Funny Characters, 3. Pop Culture jabs 4. Plot. Seriously, if you are an empath or find yourself wondering "who am I when I'm not with other people", this book is for you. Gives me such hope for my future.

Fake dating and a girl who has people pleasing tendencies it's endearing and funny.
Elsie tries to stop using her coping mechanism and be true to herself and also lear  to thrust others.
This book is an ode to the people pleasing girls who try to be true to herself.

I liked this more than Ali Hazelwood’s second book! The romance built up well, and the stem references were nerdy as expected. It was a nice and easy read.
