Paul is such a little asshole.
Kudos to Herbert for the overly detailed world he dreamed up. Not a detail left unturned.
Such a baller move for the Bene Gesserit to have planted their own bit across an entire universe.
I get the weaving-an-intricate-picture-of-religious-nuance-oh-and-I’m-critiquing-imperialism vibes… but did it have to be quite so wordy? Probably not. Am I writing this grumpily? Also yes.
Maybe my review will change upon later reflection. Rn just glad to be done.

I mean it's dune, what more is there to say? One of my favorite adolescent sci Fi reads, and a classic of science fiction that mostly holds up to this day.
It's got some outdated/problematic ideas, and it's certainly not as successful as some inheritors of its legacy, but it's an excellent second or third sci Fi book.

I'm glad I read this. It was definitely dated; there were some strange anachronisms (like, coffee? Saguaro cactus?); a weird mixture of hyper developed technology and medieval imagery (like, magical body shields but knife fighting?); and it's not really my cup of tea, but this is one of those classics of the genre that you have to read some day and I only waited 50 years or so after its publication to get to it.
