This was a smidge of a disappointment after the first book. The action advances well and the character development is decent, though it takes a backseat to the worldbuilding, which is quite extensive this time around, and very interesting at that. My main issue is that it didn't feel like complete story on its own in the slightest. This is obviously a series and planned/written as one to begin with, but even within a larger overarching plot, I prefer each installment to have its own beginninng, middle, and end. I liked this installment and I appreciate what it did and am looking forward to the next book, I just had hoped for just a bit more from this on its own.
Graphic: Medical content and Gun violence
Moderate: Sexism, Violence, Death, Child death, and Grief
Minor: Death of parent
We see a bit more direct battle than the previous book.
