I was heavy-breathing through this book from about 50% to the end. It’s everything you’d expect from Frieda McFadden- the good and the bad- and it DELIVERED. I read it in two sittings of 50% each.
I made a grave mistake reading this at night, because my heart is beating fast and I’m probably not getting any sleep.

I hate to admit this is my first Freida McFadden read, but here we are and I’m only upset I didn’t start sooner (in my defense, her books have been on my shelf…)

I don’t often get caught off guard with endings, but the plot twists this book took were unreal. I enjoyed every twist, turn and fork in the road. My only complaint is that it is a very simple writing style for the intense content, but I don’t necessarily find that to be a flaw. Rather, they are reads I can pick up whenever, no matter how tired I may be.

Didn’t love the twist. Seems like it was setting it up to be something more interesting.

Also, the characters/dialogue just felt shallow.

It was a quick easy read, but not anything remarkable.

I didn’t see the twist in this one, and it had me screaming. There isn’t much I can praise or criticize without giving stuff away.

I can say this ended up being a five star read for me DESPITE the FMC. She is almost willfully naive.

Frieda McFadden has me hooked.

An excellent thriller, well paced, lots of twists that weren't predictable or unbelievable,  and an excellent ending

Wow! This book had me guessing constantly.
Brooke is a single mom trying her best to protect her son and give him the best she possibly can. She went through a traumatic experience in high school and is trying her best to avoid her past life….but it all comes barreling back into her as soon as she chooses to work for the prison. Such a wild and suspenseful book. It will definitely keep you guessing and thinking throughout!

Medium-fast paced book. This book was semi-predictable. The beginning and ending of the book were good. The middle was meh. There was a lot of back and forth, between two of the characters, Tim and Shane. “Tim’s a bad person.” “No, Shane’s a bad person.” This was the part that made it predictable, because it alluded that one of these characters possibly was guilty of something, rather than letting the suspense naturally build a little bit more. It got old after a while. The ending had a plot twist that I wasn’t predicting.
