This book made me sob. I need at least a few days to get over how sad and beautiful this book truly is. I should have read it sooner, I do think that this is by far my favorite book that I have read in ages.

After seeing numerous mixed reviews on we were liars by E Lockhart I almost didn't pick it up. However, after reading this book I am extremely glad that I did. This book is an excellent representation about how some people find the book is not for them but that doesn't mean it's not for others.

I do feel like this book speaks to a particular group of people. Yes, you will be very confused during a good portion of this book. You have to be able to roll with it and you have to be able to hope that everything will just be made clear at the end. Being confused a little bit and having doubts as to what's happening is actually part of the allure of this book. Which is probably why it does not appeal to the masses. If you like having a book completely laid out and plainly explained, then you're not going to like this. I put a lot of faith that everything would be made clear and I definitely had that delivered to me at the end. This is a book that you absolutely have to pay attention to, I saw a lot of reviews stating that they were confused at the end still but to me it was very plain what happened and I enjoyed the "AHA!!!" moment at the end when it was all made clear.

This book is about a girl who spent summers with her extended family at their family's vacation compound. Several houses sat on the edge of a lake where her and her cousins grow, develop and learn together. They have an extremely tight bond and for some reason during the book you realize that the main character has been fractured from her family and you don't quite understand why. You know there is a lot of tension between her and her cousins and her aunts and uncles and it's likely that you don't quite grasp what the big problem is. Lots of people are tiptoeing around the female main character and you don't really understand why because it doesn't seem like anything very drastic has actually happened. As the story progresses you were given more clues as to what is really happening with this character. You are given spoilers throughout the book that the main character does have some mental health issues and is sick a lot of the time but again you don't really know why. The big reveal at the end completely wraps it up and it is absolutely shocking. I thought about it long after I finished reading the book.

Overall I give we were liars by E Lockhart a 5/5. I understand that a lot of people had a lot of problems with this book but for me it was an absolute stunner of an ending that could not be ignored with anything less than a perfect stars score.

This was a horrible style of writing. So choppy and
the hardest
book to follow
ever..... The twist isn't worth the pain of reading through that book!

Meh, that's not it.
Spent 70% of the book wondering if anything plot-wise will happen after all and if this was supposed to be a mystery novel or if i just got confused with the genre and instead it was your typical vacation-beach-lovestory without further depth.
The pretentiousness of the characters is a main point of this book and kinda makes sense considering the ending but man, you really have to be super super privileged or naive or ignorant to survive the first 70% of this book without wanting to throw it against a wall.
Conclusion: if you're up for some white-blond-athletic-american-rich-entitlement and a lot of whining, this is the book for you.
However, the last 15% were well paced and interesting, so there's that.

It was so tedious
and annoying
and slow paced

that I just couldn’t care less about the
plot twist
when it happened.
I was annoyed
by every second of this book
and it sent me into a
reading slump.

It was so pretentious
if this book went to uni it would’ve been a business major
