Great book. I read it every year, and always find something new in it.

This year, I decided to change things up and try the audiobook (the unabridged 12-hour one). It's okay, but the narrator botched the pronunciation of everything from the soldiers' names to cities and towns. He even switched between multiple wrong pronunciations of the same names in a single chapter. If you opt for the audiobook, just be aware that a lot is wrong.

Ambrose is a fine writer, a skilled historian, and clever at his use of prose, but his fondness for the military and appreciation of the bonds formed by the men he interviewed can sometimes border on idolatry.
