It's a bit of a cheat to label this read, as I'm not quite finished... but I did want to add it to my collection of UK holiday reads from 2014 before I forgot.

Decent book. Good narration. Felt a bit repetitive at times but did a decent job at flowing slightly naturally.

Though I did enjoy this I did find that it was a little all over the place
It switches quickly from one crime to another within the same theme violence, poisoning etc where as I would have liked it a bit more broken up and maybe with headers
However it was overall enjoyable it was just easy to go "hang on is this the same crime or new people?"

Interesting book on the professionalization of police, detectives and science as well as the true crime genre that surrounded it. Too long and anecdotal, wanted a bit more analysis rather than proof the author did research. Last chapter was most interesting.

Narrator wasn’t the best, but the book was interesting and will hold your attention. Lots of crimes that I hadn’t heard of.

I wish this had a clearer structure as it's very difficult to understand what the author is actually trying to achieve, but as a loosely connected and slightly meandering description of famous Victorian murder cases and their popularisation it's still an interesting read.
