Dieses Buch war eine riesen Überraschung!
Ich habe es in einem offenen Bücherschrank gefunden, und da mir der Name der Autorin etwas sagte und ich sogar Bücher von ihr auf meinem TBR habe, habe ich es mitgenommen, in der Erwartung, dass es sich hier um cringey, facepalm YA-Literatur, perfect for hate-reading, handelt.
Und ja, ich fand es teilweise sehr cringey und facepalm, but in a good way!

Vor allem da ich Katy als Hauptfigur super fand. Sie ist super sympathisch, und lässt sich nichts gefallen.
Daemon ist einfach so eine riesen Red Flag, er gaslighted sie dauernd und tut so als wäre sie dumm 🚩🚩🚩, und das fast das ganze Buch lang! Das hat mich furchbar aufgeregt.

Deshalb hat es mir besonders imponiert, das Katy nicht einfach der Anziehung, die sie zu ihm verspürt nachgegeben hat, und dass sie am Ende des Buches NICHT zusammengekommen sind (yes, I know, wahrscheinlich werden sie in einem der nächsten Bücher zusammenkommen). Auch wen Daemon nachvollziehbare Gründe für sein Verhalten hatte, vergibt sie ihm nicht sofort, nachdem sie die Wahrheit erfährt. Sie versteht ihn zwar, aber das ganze Gaslighting und die Arschlochmasche von ihm, vergibt sie ihm zurecht nicht einfach so.

Jetzt wird die Reihe ja oft mit Twilight verglichen, was ich vom Vibe her verstehen kann. Ich finde es ist das bessere Twilight

, aber mit Aliens

, aus den oben genannten Gründen -  FMC, die sich nichts gefallen lässt. Im Gegensatz zu Bella, die einfach alles mögliche hinnimmt und sich nur mehr auf Edward fokussiert, ist Katy einfach nur von Daemons Verhalten genervt und hat auch noch andere Hobbies außer von ihm obsessed zu sein (Buchblog, Gärtnern - sympathische Hobbys noch dazu).


Eine Sache, die ich mich bei Büchern aus diesem Genre immer frage:

Warum haben diese uralten und übernatürlichen Wesen nichts besseres zu tun, als in die High School zu gehen???

Ein paar Fragen, die mir noch im Kopf rum spuken, aber wahrscheinlich in den nächsten Bänden beantwortet werden:

Wie alt sind die Aliens? Wie alt können sie werden? Die Sache mit dem Verteidigungsministerium ist mir auch unklar, warum haben sie sich überhaupt von denen erwischen lassen, sie hätten doch super leicht abtauchen und sich verstecken können? Was ist mit Katys Dad, war er womöglich einer von ihnen? Vielleicht ist sie Halb-Alien?

Theory: Daemon und Dees Eltern waren sowas wie Alien Royalty und Daemon ist der Thronfolger, darum ist er auch so stark 

 

Teil 2 habe ich jedenfalls schon als Hörbuch ausgeliehen und ich freue mich darauf! 
Ich denke dass auch die Nebencharaktere noch mehr in Erscheinung treten, ich hoffe es gibt da noch mehr character building und world building

Obsidian is the first novel in Jennifer L. Armentrout's Lux series. It was billed as a YA at the time of release, though now it might classify as an NA series; it is a mature YA with 17-year-old protagonists dealing with life and death situations.

I love an action-packed novel with strong characters, and Obsidian delivers. This book gives us Katy's POV exclusively, which does add the mystery as she tries to piece together her suspicions and reach conclusions. After moving from Florida to West Virginia, her new neighbors aren't all they seem, and Katy is both smart and self-confident enough to not let the gaslighting completely undermine what she's seen.

Katy is a compelling protagonist because she is very messy and real. She's self-confident enough to not accept being treated poorly, but she's also not a snob, she has her insecurities, and she wrestles with things. The combination makes her credible and relatable. 

Daemon is like a faucet - he runs hot and cold in a blink, and you never know which version of him you'll get. While that's frustrating for Katy, it does reveal his internal struggle, because he knows his people should keep their distance from humans, but that isn't always easy to do.

While this book centers on discovery and a growing potential relationship between Katy and Daemon, JLA doesn't feel pressured to tie things up with a neat bow or give us closure. Many threads have been introduced because they'll become relevant later (I read the entire series last week) and it works extremely well within the context of the series. This book is a compelling introduction to the series and it left me wanting more, which was why I kept reading, and didn't even take a break before completing all 5 books in the series. I'm thrilled that Entangled is releasing new special editions of these books - I must admit to having a bit of a book hangover now, because Katy, Daemon, and the rest of the gang have become so embedded in my brain, it's hard to let them go. A pageturner that I thoroughly enjoyed. 5 stars.

I wasn't expecting much with this book, given the time period that this book was released and all the other teen paranormal romances that were popular around the time. This was so much better than what I was expecting. I really enjoyed the story, although at the start, I was a little unsure it got interesting rather quickly. 
Katy moves to a new town with her mother, who often leaves her alone because Katy is trustworthy. she quickly becomes friends with her next-door neighbour, Dee, despite Dee's brother Daemon being an ass. I felt that the progression of the story was well paced and that Dee and Katys' friendship was really central to it all, although there was a heavy focus on Katy's obviously blooming attraction to Daemon throughout as well. The complications of Dee and Daemon being aliens was intriguing and felt so realistic. I can't wait to read the next one, especially with the ending of this being as it was, I respect Katy so much.
