I've had this in my to-read pile for ages, as I was impressed by the art style and saw many cute scenes. I'm going to be honest, I dropped it somewhere around Chapter 90 when I realized that a. the story was treading water and b. the much, much older mentor character was actually going to start dating a barely 18 year old character.

I'm going to be very real--this story doesn't have half as much to say as it thinks it does. As appealing as a story about an out gay man who secretly struggles with a lot of anxiety around his gayness while putting on a confident front is compelling but... not how it is done here. The CONSTANT cycle of him taking it out on his love interest over and over again ruins the chemistry of the couple and makes him a less sympathetic character. Which is fine! If it weren't so boring, as it's the same thing over and over again.

Toxicity is fine if it's compelling and if I can understand why the two characters want to overcome it. But... I don't. They like each other because they were nice to each other first. It stops making sense when the niceness stops. Injecting dialogue where they flat out admit they haven't had a real conversation doesn't help.

I do appreciate how this tried to turn some conventions on their heads (like the meddling fujo, lol) but it just... feels like this story could have been massively condensed to avoid getting stuck of a cycle of story telling which somehow ended up making the main characters more flat with each go around.
