After much panicking waiting on this book, I settle on one thought. What The H E L L. I am not sure if we are coming or going already, and my jaw is on the floor. It had so many twists.

I so want to know more on how the connection between Ronin and Lila worked. I hurt for Lila and Evelyn. This book was crazy, and I so didn’t see Graham coming. I cried for Ronin. I couldn’t imagine the pain he had. The ending had me holding my breath. My heart just hurt.

I’ll leave it at this last thought because I don’t want anyone to miss out on this. This book stretched me. My imagination went wild. You will need tissues!

c'est impossible de prendre l'histoire au sérieux. l'ambiance hivernale m'avait plaît dans le premier tome et j'espérais que la seconde y ressemblerait aussi. tous les personnages étaient seulement énervants et égoïstes.

If you don’t already know, Jewel E Ann doesn’t write run of the mill, cookie cutter romance. She writes epic, emotionally charged stories with multilayered characters that are going to leave their mark on you.

This is the second part of Ronin and Evelyn’s story, and it is not a sunshine and rainbows tale. This is a real look at how even the strongest love can be questioned, and even the truest of connections can waver. But at the end of the day they never forgot what was really important.

I know everyone uses the term “all the feels” a lot, but I’m going to be honest and say those three words really hold true here. All I have left to say is that you need to read this duet, this is the type of story that sticks with you long after you are done .

This duet was amazing but I was left with feelings of sadness for Ronin and Evie, their lives forever changed because of the lies and deceit they were apart of. Their relationship and the relationship of Lila and Graham all suffered and in the end, lives lost because of poor choices.

Book 1 - 3 ⭐️

Ooof. <- I wish that could be it. The whole review.

What went well - Jewel E Ann writes in a way that is very readable, and (when she desires to do so) writes characters that are very likable. I also was intrigued by the "magical realism" aspect of the story.

However, beyond that I don't have many nice things to say about this duet. For me, in any book classed as romance, there is this invisible line that needs to be toed to avoid becoming irredeemable. Lies that shouldn't be told, secrets that shouldn't be kept. Any relationship, real or fictitious can only take so much battering before there is more pain in staying together than apart. It became apparent to me relatively early in the duet that things were going to occur in this story there was no coming back from. Were things as bad as I feared? In someways, no. In other ways things were much worse.

At the end of the day I cannot suspend my disbelief that the events this book culminated in could end in smiles and laughs and I love you. Especially in the span of just like 3% of a story. 97% pain and misery and hurt and betrayal and 3% oh it'll all be okay if you kiss me and say you love me. Forget the body count.

This book did not do it for me. At all.

(x-posting this review with the first in the duet)

Alright, let's just get this clear. These two stories, at their base, are about love. YEAH, there are a whole lot of things in the way of all that love, but that is what we have got. I did not see this second in the duo coming but damn, it was hard. Ronin & Evie are everything to each other, until something happens and gets in the way and starts to rip and tear at their lives. Graham & Lila are all over the place and it is getting darker in their world. I can absolutely recommend these stories if you like your love a little darker and with a whole bunch of f'd up stuff going on around it. Otherwise, you might think twice.
