Meeeeeh. the quality of the art in this varied a lot and I didn't care for a lot of the story (except when Monica came in). overall disappointed with this.

Prepping for the new Captain Marvel movie had me grabbing up this omnibus of the 2012 Captain Marvel Comics #1-12. I had a great time reading it and getting reacquainted with Captain Marvel! I’m looking forward to finishing off the 2012 series and continuing on through the 2014 series and into present day. Captain Marvel’s powers are still a little murky in this book, but we get a much clearer picture of who Carol Danvers is and her past. The only complaint I really have is that for issues 9-12 the artist was terrible & in my opinion has probably never seen a woman in real life. His renderings of Captain Marvel (& any other woman) are so disproportionate as to be hilarious.. often times had ridiculous issues with legs being drawn as either longer than physically possible or being drawn complete disjointed (the bottom half wouldn’t line up with the top half).. plus all the pictures looked like hastily drawn sketches rather than detailed pictures, though you could probably get away with saying that’s a personal preference. Either way, I hope the future issues don’t keep with that particular artist.

This didn't really work as an introductory volume for me -- it felt like a collection of short stories that didn't hang together all that well. I wasn't able to latch on to many consistent motifs or themes, which surprises me for a DeConnick joint.

I like the story - the time travel back, the history of it, the current struggles with friends and neighbours - everything.

I especially love the snark with Captain America and I hope that at least a bit of it transfers into the MCU. And, the friendship with Spider-Woman! I like!

What I didn't like? The artwork at the second half of the book. That really wasn't artwork I enjoy.

I only really began to enjoy the story until issue #7 (this has 12 total) where the typical marvel humor really started to come through and the dialogue between the characters was definitely way more enjoyable.
