Oh look, a book about the not-so-distant-future of the Tory government :) I think that's what I enjoyed the most out of this; I can actually see how the British class divides could come to this. (FYI, I would be one of those people blocked off and sacrificed to the sea, just saying.) And, there would 100% be a group of people who watch there homes flood and say "ah, it'll be fine in the morning." So blazĂ© but so true.
However, this is a classic case of 'I really enjoyed the premise but I could have done without the romance.' I am not a romance reader. I appreciate the LGBTQ+ representation, but I think it was more to do with Chance's age, I just felt very... Uncomfortable. It would serve to being more of a YA book to me than an adult dystopian. If it was Chance's mum in the relationship, I wouldn't have felt so cringe. I have to admit, I skipped past those parts. Chance just came across too young for me to believe and appreciate those parts.
Great concept and execution; the flowery prose and writing style reminds me of Sophie Mackintosh. But, overall, it wasn't for me.
