Awww! Really sweet, so imaginative, and spell binding! I think that the rules of magic, the prequel which was written after, is better but this one is still good. I guess it’s hard for me to stomach that they just buried Jimmy in the backyard... its just something I couldn’t do! But I liked the story nonetheless. If you liked this one, you should read the rules of magic

After being obsessed with the film recently I wasn't sure how the book was gonna live up to my incredibly high opinions but it definitely did even though it was actually completely different!
The characters were all engaging and complex, the writing was easy to follow but still had very descriptive scenes which I loved. My only negative is the aunts were my favourite (probably due to their film versions lol) and I was a bit disappointed they weren't in it a lot but when they were they made a big impression! Can't wait to read the rest of the series, and rewatch the film... again

So slow and narrative. The chapters are too long. I loved this movie but i just cannot bring myself the read it.
