A great mystery!  I read it on a long flight and was glued to the pages, following the twists and turns and trying to guess whodunit!

This was a really good mystery. I kept thinking I’d figured it out and then, nope! It was great. Elma was such a good detective too. I didn’t love some of the misdirection, especially when it wasn’t relevant, but that’s a mystery for you. I could see reading more of this series.

(This was also particularly good for me in that I’d been to Akranes in 2007. I remembered a couple of the places talked about and have a book I could pull out to look at other things. I liked that a lot.)

Elma is a police officer who moves back to her home of Akranes from Reykjavik. As she settles in the body of a woman in found near the town's lighthouse and a dark history is slowly revealed.

I enjoyed the setting of this book, being Iceland, but the ending leaves a lot to be desired and was so disappointing. There are so many unanswered questions and in some cases it is up to the reader to come to some conclusion. This style of writing is not really to my liking. Plus there is the constant jumping from the past to the present. I sometimes wish the past was just revealed in the present instead of having these different timelines as they don't always mesh together, especially as there are so many unanswered questions in this book.

Mildly entertaining, but could have easily be so much more.
