I’m always here for a body positive, sapphic RomCom! For Her Consideration was absolutely perfect IMO!

I LOVED Nina like she was my best friend. She was the person I want to hang out, go get food, watch movies with… she just felt so incredibly relatable and like someone I want to protect at all cost.

We begin the book after the intense break-up with her ex. Because of what was said to her by the woman who broke her heart, Nina completely stops speaking to her friends and goes into hiding. She doesn’t want to hurt the people close to her, so she devotes her life to work… and not her writing passion project. The work she does for a PR firm, writing emails as world famous stars. Stars like Ari Fox, the rumored to be future first out lesbian to win a best supporting actress Academy Award.

When an email Nina writes as Ari doesn’t sound like something she would say, the actress requests to have a meeting with her to discuss getting to know each other so that it doesn’t happen again in the future. And during their first meeting there is definitely attraction between them. But instead of anything more, they become friends, which Nina is in dire need of. But little by little, the sparks start to get undeniable…

The supporting characters were also incredible! I kept fan casting Nina’s boss as Sarah Paulson, which I love!!! And once she reconnects with her friend group, I fell in love with them all! I always feel jealous of tight-knit friend groups. I’m just too much of a home-body and don’t spend enough time with my friends.

I love that we get to feel Nina slowly heal from the trauma that she faced from such a toxic past relationship. She’s incredible and I love her so much! Ari gave me Ruby Rose sex appeal, but she’s so much more humble. They were the perfect match!

I feel like I’m still swooning over the story!

I was hoping to love this, but I didn’t. I felt for Nina but I thought she was kind of boring and annoying. I understand that the whole issue with her and her new relationship was that she didn’t want to do the same things her ex had faulted and dumped her over.

But even when she revealed the list of things her ex had dumped her for, which was extremely cruel imo, no one really told her that those traits were fine??? Like, sure, some of them were annoying, but Nina was like “welp, I’m a horrible burden so I’m going go now”. I thought it was so stupid when Nina and Ari broke up. Plus, it was just Nina going “anyway” and hung up and that was her ending the relationship???? Maybe I missed something during the audiobook but I was like huh???

There were moments that I liked and times that I got into the audiobook a little bit more, but it did take me a while to get into and a few days to finish. Such a stilted listening experience can really ruin the book for me, I’ve noticed.

This book was fine, not really for me. I did love her group of friends, they are all so supportive of each other! I just found I was not interested in what happens to the main characters.

to be SOO real right now like I apologize but: I have disliked books before but there was something deeply agonizingly horrible about this main character to me and I kept reading this book the same way you hate read someone’s social media feed. Both Nina and Ari were bland and Nina was absolutely awful and not in the enjoyable Bad Female Character way just AWFUL. I only cared about the surrounding friend group and Lorna and her friends at the nursing home. Ari had so much potential but was underdeveloped and had no personality besides “hot and goofy” and the JOKES WEREN’T even ever FUNNY????? I did not laugh one time.

I’m sorry Amy Spalding, this just was not at all it for me.

I really really enjoyed this book!!! I felt like I was one of Nina's friends. It follows Nina during the aftermath of a really awful breakup. I loved Nina's friend group, it's her found family. I really enjoyed the progression of her and Ari's relationship it was just so perfect and relatable in my opinion. The book follows Nina as she goes through just surviving after the break up to actually finding what she wants. It was body positive in a way that was just perfect in a way that was real in her inner thoughts things that no one ever thinks or wants to say out loud and I'm so glad authors are pushing back the envelope lately and showing these parts of body acceptance.

Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review as always, all words are my own.

Loved the characters, especially Lorna and Ari. I enjoyed the main character's growth arc which is always key for my enjoyment. I loved the call out to restaurants and general scene setting information throughout the book. Amy had a great way of making you feel immersed in this story making this a truly enjoyable read.

Nina has a bad breakup - her ex accusing her of being a horrible friend among other things. Nina cuts ties to her friends - and hibernates in the suburbs.
A few years later, Nina is forced out of hiding. One of her clients, Ari Fox, is not a fan of her representation. After a business meeting, something starts between them. Friendship begins - but Nina doesn't want to sully Ari.
Nina runs into her once close friend, Bianca - forcing her to rejoin her abandoned social group.
Let's not forget her comic aunt - who reminds her life is meant to be lived.
Very sweet debut.
