Are women doctors in historical romance my new kink? MAYBE SO.

This was my first dipping of my toe into the historical romance pool and honestly, I was super impressed. Maybe my expectations were super low, but I was super surprised at how feminist this story actually was.

Hello Stranger follows Dr. Garrett Gibson and former Detective Inspector Ethan Ransom as they keep getting thrown together as Ransom toes the line of legality now that he's off the force. Of course, romance ensues, but honestly that wasn't even what I was most impressed with. I was more engaged with Dr. Gibson's life as the only female physician in London and what her life was like. She was the opposite of dumb bitch energy; she was smart, she was tactical, she had COMMON FUCKIN SENSE. I loved her so much.

Ransom, I could've taken or left. He was roguish and fun but nothing about him stood out from your typical rogue with a heart of gold. I did like the classism that his storyline brought up but overall, Dr. Gibson really shined for me.

This is definitely my favorite historical romance that I've read thus far (not that I've read many). I would recommend it to anyone looking to get into the genre while avoiding the nightmarish misogyny that's typical in the genre.

Doc Garrett has a chance of love and there is still the family in this one but less than others in this series. Ransom we meet before as the spy but he has a secret that makes this story even better. Love all the medical and female badass lady Doc that we get in this book. The historical parts are wonderful with the political parts- Irish nationalism, woman in England in 1870, and medical.

Ethan is a commoner also and has worked his way up the ranks to be a spy and is trying to stay away from Garrett but can't stop. This is a little different from other HR or this series as its two commoners and so we get a different side of London. Ethan is 100 and we get a lot of steam from him!

Overall, 4.5 stars and 4.5 steam!

This is probably closer to 3.5 stars but I still thought it deserved higher than 3 stars. I have loved Garrett since we first met her and I enjoyed watching her and Ethan love each other and fight so hard for each other but I didn't feel as much for them as I have the other couples. West being in so much of this book was a high point for me. He's such a great character.

Maybe it's me. It probably is, but the first part of this book was so slow. I found myself avoiding it, so the first 50% was easily a 2 star. However, after a certain mishap the book moved at a much better pace for me. Or I just love West Ravenel, so looking forward to reading his book next.

Ethan and Garrett were interesting to read. But I wasn't feeling as gushy towards them as I was with the rest of the Ravenel love matches. Of the Ravenel books, I found this one to be the weakest. But even that said, I enjoyed the latter part of Hello Stranger.

Overall, I really love the ratio of historical to romance content in Kleypas' works, and we don't get FMCs like Garrett Gibson often, so yay! However, I wanted just a bit more relationship development from Garrett and Ethan in order to rate this higher.
