مبالغ بها. هناك الكثير من المقاطع المبتذلة التي ضايقتني أثناء القراءة، خصوصًا في النهاية. لو كنت مكان الكاتب، لفكرت قليلًا في وضع هذه الجملة أو تلك؛ ما الغرض من تلك الجمل التي تشبّه السماء بالفطور أو الشوكولاتة؟ استلم الكاتب السماء استلامًا لا تحمد عقباه.

الراوي: الموت. تتوقع شيئًا مميزًا، ثم يصفعك المؤلف مرة أخرى لتوقّعك الكثير. يبدو هذا الراوي مثل خدعة تستعملها إن كان قارئك النموذجي طفلًا، لا ينفع هذا مع فئة عمرية ستطرح الكثير من الأسئلة على هذا الراوي الذي ليس مصممًا في الأساس للإجابة عنها.

القصص الخيالية التي تتناول الهولوكوست مدعاةٌ للريبة، فغالبًا ما تتوقع إساءة استخدام الأحداث التاريخية، وحين يكون الكاتب أستراليًا معاصرًا، تتوقع أسلوب رواية تجاري، وهذا ما تجده.

سأتسامح معها لأنني قرأتها في فترة عصيبة.

My immediate impression, which lasted through the book and was wow so affirmed when I read his notes at the end, was that this author would've been an MFA boy but like a sweet earnest one who I would have defended loudly in workshops even if his work wasn't my favorite. Anyway parts of this were Very Written but other parts and actually fine also some of those parts were quite beautiful and the long slow punch in the grief bone really worked for me. Would it have worked as much if my dad hadn't given this book to me??? Irrelevant

wonderful! A little tough to get into, but after the first few chapters it completely opens up. Tough and uncomfortable material, but definitely worth it.
