This is a very important and eye-opening book. The author absolutely decimates the founding myths of America and sheds much needed light on a history of settler colonialism and genocide that the United States has worked hard to bury.

I was not the biggest fan of the writing style, and I think this book would have benefited from editing to make sure it maintained a tighter focus on its subject matter. At times the book seemed to skip around between geographic areas or time periods, without making clear who, where and when the narrative was describing.

Five stars for thesis. Four stars for writing style and readability.

Fairly academic. The author's argument is well-made, and I learned so many things that should have been covered in U.S. history courses.

Thoroughly agree with this book and it’s efforts but she goes full on rant towards the end. I found the sources lacking and mostly just ones she agreed with. Her argument is heavily from one perspective and very political  and although she is in no way wrong, it’s just not unbiased history. She comes from a very Marxist/socio/political theoretical standpoint and doesn’t mention that at all in her introduction. All her arguments are about capitalistic and militaristic forces, again not wrong but just very apparent and one sided and got very political and soap box like. Also insanely unfocused in the later chapters going from the Iraq wars to the Winchester Mystery House was a hell of a leap.
