Every bit as brilliant as I'd been led to believe, Moore gets under the skin of Joker - cleverly mixing flashbacks with the present in a way that should be familier to anyone who has so much as glanced at Watchmen.
The added extras of the foreward and artists notes at the end cleverly book-end possibly my favourite Batman story so far

A disturbing, Mooreish take on Batman. I didn't love it, but it certainly stuck in my head.

For a madman, The Joker made a lot of sense.
The Deluxe edition has some really stunning visuals; the recolored artwork is amazing. But what really stood out to me was the writing. Joker's soliloquies were philosophically compelling. It made so much sense to me that it made me question my own sanity.
Plot-wise, it was ok. The more important part, I guess, was Joker's backstory. I'm kind of on the fence with Batman wanting to hash it out with The Joker to avoid killing each other (granted, I kind of always felt this 'principle' was annoyingly and excessively idealistic).
But all in all. It's a pretty solid comic book

Batman comics only get better with age. This special edition with author comments and how the illustrations were done make it even better. But the story most of all is great, we have a nice origin story and a deeper understanding of how the Joker views society, that in the world we live in at the moment is something really perplexing to think about, because he might not be wrong, even if the original story was written in the 80's.
