Twisty turny. Twisty turny. Heartbreaking set up. I'm not sure how I feel about the execution.

I don't know. I'm going to have to think about this one.

"Good. Because you're the only girl I've ever had the urge to love."
This book took so many different turns. I fell in love with the complex characters are the story evolved. I am so proud of sky and the trauma she has gone through and lived through. This book was amazing and written so beautifully. Everything made sense and pieced together in the end.

Lately, it has been taking me about a week to finish a decent length book. Hopeless took me less than 24 hours. I literally could not put this down. My kindle was in my hand except for the 6 hours I took to begrudgingly put it down to get some sleep and the hour that I was at church (which, I honestly debated with myself if anyone would care if I read during the service, and my annoying habit of caring what others think won out). The first half of the book was fun, flirty, light-hearted, and I just love the characters - all of them. Sky's bestest friends in the whole wide world were amazing. I totally would have loved them as friends in high school; hell, even now! Sky was a great heroine. She was strong, smart, brave, and normal as normal could get. I loved everything about her. Holder - I think Holder is the ultimate definition of the sensitive male, and I mean that in the best way possible. He was wonderful in the first half of the book- funny, sweet, thoughtful, weird at times, you know, really good hero stuff. But, when the second half of the book took its dark and twisty turn, OMG, the Holder in the second half of the book!! Still sweet, still thoughtful, but oh so sensual, and empathetic. The guy cries for Sky's pain, for his sister's pain. And not some bawling, unmanly cry. Oh no. Sensitive, amazing Holder sheds his quiet tears from red eyes, that just have to silently leak out as if he is trying to absorb every tear that Sky has cried, and only the ones that he cannot contain any longer manage to fall. But the most amazing part of this story, believe it or not, is not Holder or Sky as individuals. But as a couple, a new, extremely young couple, that has to deal with circumstances that noone should ever, ever have to experience; and how they support each other, talk about the deep, dark subjects with each other, cry for each other's pain, and most importantly love each other unconditionally. It's these kinds of stories, and these kinds of protaganists that really get to you deep down, and make you think about the person(s) in your life that you love and would do anything for and would do anything for you. I love it when a book makes me reflect on my own life and appreciate what I have. This is a fantastic book - 5 stars!

I listened to this book on audible and did not enjoy it. I’m not sure if I would have liked it more if I read it though. Nothing really happens with the story until you are half way through. The feelings these 17 year olds are having seem way too complex for their age. I know people in their 30’s who have never experienced the types of emotions Skye and Holder are dealing with let alone are able to vocalize them like they do. The long drawn out “sex” scenes were too much for me. I very often would thing to myself “is it over yet?” I would not suggest this book, but I would still recommend the author.

This was a hard read for me. I like realism but this was so hard core that I almost couldn't be happy or satisfied at the end. Superb writing and characters as always. If you loved Slammed and POR where our couple finds each other, fall in love, but their circumstances keep them apart for awhile this is more like the couple having to dig their way out of an abyss to be together.
