I love this series as a whole, and these prequel novellas are so interesting. They really add a lot more to the story and I love seeing all the little references to what happens in the future. I did find the description VERY repetitive though, and i'm more than sick of hearing about Glinda's syrupy-sweet voice and the thick carpets in the emerald palace. However, I did enjoy this book and would definitely reccomend it to fans of the series as it explains a lot about what happened before Amy Gumm came to oz.

Least favorite of the series. Didn't really go in chronological order. I liked Lion's story best but it seemed like it wrapped up fast. None of the novellas really gave enough details why the characters turned out the way they did.

This volume has the last 3 prequel novellas of the Dorothy Must Die Series.

Heart of Tin- 3 Stars
Out of the 5 prequel novellas, I wanted to read this one the most. But it's way too short! Yes, they tell you what was he doing when Dorothy comes back to Oz, what happens to the Winkies, how does he gets an army, what happens to his hands and heart. Paige could've added 50-100 more pages about what happens until Amy gets to Oz. However, out of all the books from this series this one, with less than 100 pages, is the most gruesome.

The Straw King- 0 Stars
I had so much hope for this book. I thought that based on Heart of Tin it was going to drip blood. To my sad surprise it was so incredibly boring! Awful nonsense that never goes into important details.

Ruler of Beasts- 4 Stars
It has it's ups and downs. Boring, interesting, boring, interesting and so on. I did enjoyed the ending. I wish they could've shared more details about the Lion's hunger for fear.

Actually 3.5 stars

These three Dorothy Must Die prequels revolve around Dorothy's original traveling companions -- the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, and the Cowardly Lion. While it's interesting to see how they got from their post-movie selves to the evil versions we see in Dorothy Must Die, some of the themes are beginning to become repetitive.
SpoilerGlinda is evil, and is making everyone evil, and they either can't see it, or can't do anything about it if they do.

Nice prequel stories. I wish they were placed in the book in chronological order however. It would have read:

The Straw King
Ruler of the Beasts
Heart of Tin

I really like these novellas Danielle is putting out. It adds so much more insight into the main series. We learn so much more about the history and the motivation behind everything. For me The Straw King was my favorite, though the other two were brilliant. I can't wait for her next set of novellas to be released! I would recommend this book. 4.5 out of 5 stars.
