If I could do a 4.5 I would! It was an amazing book but a 5 is so hard to earn in my eyes. Many twists that i enjoyed!!

Yet another book read in one sitting! This was so compelling and fun! My only wish was (as much as I enjoyed the SAR and detective POV chapters), I wish we had experienced the climax of the book as it happened, instead of seeing the aftermath.

I don't want to spoil this one, so I will skip my usual summary and try to keep anything that gives it away out of the review.

This one came recommended to me in KU, and it hooked me from the start. Normally when there is a large cast of characters, it can get confusing keeping track. The only time that happened for me was when I had to put the book down for a while. But when I picked it up, it all quickly came back to me and was easy to follow along. White did a great job of establishing their personalities right off.

The setup of a luxury resort gone awry creates the perfect, creepy atmosphere. Especially because things go wrong right from the start. I liked the way White told the story in alternating timelines and narrators, from members of the party headed out to the resort, to Callie and Mason who are investigating what has happened. I know some people didn't like that, but I love when an author can split a book into two, and White did it very well.

The storytelling here is wonderful. From the characters to the setting, and the mystery, it's a fast-paced thriller from the start and a super fun read.

Actually 4.5 stars

Eight strangers with secrets are trapped at a remote Canadian wilderness lodge in this book inspired by Agatha Christie's classic And Then There Were None. While the basic plot is right out of Christie's novel (even down to a new creepy rhyme and damaged figurines) the characters are very different, unique and compelling, even as you realize that all of the eight have done very bad things. In a clever twist, the novel alternates between the POV of the characters on the island, and the police and search and rescue personnel going after them several days later. It's an excellent thriller, and the best Christie homage I've read.

Very Agatha Christie murder mystery-esque. Loved the suspense of not knowing whether someone lured them to the lodge as an outsider or if the "killer" was among themselves. Fast paced read.

I read And Then There Were None a while back and I enjoyed it, but I daresay this modern retelling was actually more enjoyable for me. Not only did it have the murder mystery, the cryptic puzzles, and the hidden backstories, but it also had the investigation of those events by law enforcement and search and recue. I love crime novels, and this one had a great blend of finding out what happened, and what actually happened laid out through the whole story. By the end, all the loose ends were tied up nicely and while I guessed the ending, it was only one of multiple theories I was playing with. This was very engaging and kept me turning pages.

Kept me guessing until the end! It did seem to drag on in some parts but that might have been because I was so anxious to have the mystery solved.
