I really have no idea what to rate this book. The main character is incredibly unlikeable (and remains so throughout with no character growth in any direction at all), yet I couldn't help but feel a certain sympathy or pity for her, and appreciate her for what she was as a character. Also, even though I didn't enjoy the content I couldn't help but feel that it was good writing.

There really is some lovely writing here, but I hadn't been invested for maybe 60 pages or so by this point; and I recognize the meat of the story is just not for me.

Even though this was not stricta comic novel, Angel cracked me up. She was so impossible, so completely oblivious to what other people thought that you had to laugh at her or you would spend the whole of the novel in uncomfortable disbelief. That she carried her personality all the way through to the end, with very little faltering is a testament to her strength of will. All of the other characters were all so well-drawn.

This is a story about a poor girl who at 16 decided that her rich imagination will be her ticket to a better life. She wrote a novel, published it and became rich and famous.
The first part of this book was exciting - what a story! Gradually though, I started to lose interest. I'd much rather spend more time with the young Angel and her journey to achieve her dreams, but a good part of the book deals with people and stuff that weren't that interesting.
