Atlas Obscura bringt einen an Orte, die man gar nicht so leicht findet und die Besonderheiten aufzeigt. Ein Reiseführer der anderen Art. Obwohl man dieses Buch nicht als solchen benutzen sollte. Man sollte sich wenn genau informieren ob die Orte überhaupt zugänglich sind und wenn was damit verbunden ist.
Viele Orte mit Bildern und richtig interessanten Informationen. Vieles ist dabei, was man auf den ersten Blick nicht als vielversprechend finden würde, aber dank der Hintergrundinformationen und den Bilder, stellt man schnell fest das ein besuch lohnenswert ist. Einiges davon würde auch nicht im üblichen Reiseführer stehen. Und es sind Orte dabei, die ich so nie auswählen würde. Religöse Stätten, ungewöhnliche Museen oder einfach die Natur an sich, die einen zum staunen bringt.
Ich blätter immer mal wieder durch dieses Buch durch und entdecke immer wieder tolle Sachen und würde direkt meine Tasche packen und durch die Tür spazieren zu meinem nächsten Reiseziel.
Zudem ist das Buch sein Geld Wert da es sehr hochwertig ist. Schon allein der Schutzumschlag gefällt mir außerordentlich gut.

This was fun! The Atlas Obscura does what the website of the same name does: It shows you weird things around the globe and tells you how to get there, but without nagging you that you should go outside more.
This book is sorted like a normal atlas would be, by continents and then by countries. There are short articles or hints about stuff in the same area, sometimes with pictures, sometimes not.
While there are some things I already knew and one place I visited years ago, I learned lots of beautiful and useless facts, and some that may come in handy one day.
Most of these articles are very little judgemental, the tone is "humans do weird stuff" with a bit of humour thrown in for good measure. Also, they tell you if a site is valued by the native population and don't focus on colonists alone.
I got this book from the library and thought I'd read an article here and there, but nope. I found myself unable to jump something and read the whole thing, which surprised me, because normally I find it tedious to read every little bit. Not here.
I will make sure my father reads this, because I know he will love it.
