Spirited, good-hearted heroine; lovely settings (English countryside, London and Venice); old-fashioned; light gothic romance; light suspense: these components make a lovely read to me. A girl's brave actions save the life of a man sailing in Cornwall. Her life later becomes intwined with his and his somewhat odd family, which later leads to discovering the mysterious past of her own grandmother.

I didn't expect to enjoy this book as much as I did but I found it highly entertaining and really warmed to the characters, particularly in deciphering who was a goodie and who was a baddie!

I can't say this is fine literature, but I'm enjoying these Madeleine Brents so much I would probably give them 4.5's if I could. The premise of all of them is perfectly ridiculous but the heroines are likable, settings realistic, plots suspenseful, romances piquant.

I absolutely adore this story. Madeleine Brent has been one of my favorite authors since I was a teenager and Tregaron's Daughter is one of the reasons why.
This is the story of brave Cadi Tregaron, raised by her fisherman father, who saves a wealthy Englishman from dying at sea. When her father dies, the man takes her into his family as an adopted daughter of sorts. There she discovers more about her grandmother than she ever knew.
The story is well-plotted and the characters have depth. I highly recommend this novel!

Loved Cadi so much.What a wonderful heroine she is. Steady & calm, unruffled and wise!! Loved how the author leaves it to the end to decipher the actual character of Lucian. Mr. Morton is a gem, and what a delight to read about Sarah's growth from a silly to an insightful girl!
