I was expecting hot and intense. I got that plus tenderness, tension, and a powerfully emotional connection between Javier and Laura. Now, after reading First Strike I'm even more anxious for that pre-order download of Striking Distance no matter what time it arrives on November 5!

Javier and Laura are smoking hot! This is the prequel to Striking Distance. Each are on their respective assignments in Dubai and meet each other while having dinner in a restaurant where Laura was being harassed. Javier "rescues" her and it leads to one of the most steamy weekend flings I've ever read. Javi is such a personality. It seems it was supposed to be one night, no strings but you can gauge how they come to care for each other slightly by the end. The book ends in a surprising cliffhanger that will beg you to continue reading Striking Distance ASAP.

5 Stars is not enough

Javier Corbray is a SEAL in Dubai for a few days to play tourist before he heads home to the South Bronx after a rough deployment. Laura Nilsson is a television news correspondent, and is known of her fearless and honest approach to reporting. When Laura is seated at a table near him it took Javier a moment to realize who she was; the Bagdad Babe - that is what the guys in his platoon called her. Laura wasn’t hard on the eyes, but Javier preferred women with dark hair and curves. She may not have been his first choice in women, but when a few men approach Laura’s table and refuse to leave her alone Javier leaves his table to ensure that the men leave. Laura who wanted nothing more than a quiet dinner while she worked on a story found herself feeling a pull to ask Javier to join her. What started out as two people having dinner alone turns into two people feeling the zing of attraction in a city that premarital sex can land you in jail.

From the eloquent dedication to the last word of the Epilogue it was perfect! ITeam fans will not be disappointed. Yes this book contains lots of steamy scenes but there is a connection as only Pamela Clare can write between the characters too. Javier and Laura both promised that this was a weekend with no strings, but in the end they both felt the stirrings of something more.

Pamela has a large disclaimer before the first chapter that this book has a cliff hanger ending; which makes sense it is the Prequel to Striking Distance. So do not go into this thinking Javier and Laura will have their HEA at the end of First Strike, they do not, and actually if you haven’t read the blurb for Striking Distance you might think a HEA is impossible. Javier and Laura will have an HEA; it is just delayed until Striking Distance. When you read First Strike - make sure you have blocked off time to read - there is no way you will ever want to put this book down.

I received this book from Pamela Clare for my honest review. However once it releases I will buy a copy for my Nook; so it can sit on my Home Page with all the other ITeam books – yes it’s that good!

Steamy. Very steamy. A little bit of dominance for those that like that. And, whenever I read about this couple, I am forever seeing Jon Huertas and twine this story with the Castle character. This novella just whets the appetite for [b:Striking Distance|15704285|Striking Distance (I-Team, #6)|Pamela Clare|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1377922534s/15704285.jpg|21366184].
