I wanted to love it but it missed the mark. I  eally needed/wanted more cult and less romance. Also...am I wrong or was Eden an FBI agent who was 17ish?!? 🤔

Actually 3.5 stars because this book is plagued by a number of problems though the main characters in this book (the FBI agent who is the daughter of a cult leader) and her love interest (the sexy and gentlemanly town sheriff) are lovable and the story is fast-paced enough to keep you reading.

The problems (may contain spoilers!)

1) The book is supposed to be about CULT, so talk about the CULT!
Since the cult background is what makes this story stand out from other books in the genre, I was looking forward to learning more about the cult. Unfortunately, a lot of this book was devoted to describing the feelings between Eden and Zach that I feel there is not enough exploration of the cult itself, what a pity.

2) Focus on the case, not on the body!
I just don't get how Eden and Zach can be thinking about each other so much when time is of the essence (after all, girls are being kidnapped and murdered within a very short period of time). However much I might be attracted to the opposite sex, I would keep thinking about the case and resting whenever possible, instead of having dinner and sex.

3) Criminal Minds is poison!
I have a feeling that prior to Criminal Minds, authors called murderers, well murderers, killers, suspects. After CM, they start calling them UNSUB. While I like CM, I hate the term Unsub, I prefer the good old term "killer" but that's just me.

4) Again, the ending popped out of nowhere (worse than popcorn).
I didn't guess the ending and I'm not happy about it. If I were given all the clues and I failed to guess the ending, I'm content, that just shows I'm not smart enough and need to work harder. HOWEVER, when the author didn't leave enough clues and just shove the ending to my face, I feel cheated and I'm pissed. Unfortunately, having read over a hundred suspense novels so far, I'm more pissed than thrilled, which is not a good sign. Why don't authors abide by the rules of the golden era? If people can't write good mysteries, don't even bother.
