I absolutely loved the beginning. I really thought it would be a 5 star read for me, but stuff happened that just turned me off of it. The vibe just completely changed almost halfway through. As much as I liked the characters and unique storyline, some of the angsty plot points involving Archer I strongly disliked. They were understandable, considering the context...but I didn't enjoy reading them at all. I actually had to skim some chapters to get through it. He got over his debilitating trauma way too fast and the ending felt kinda rushed.

Overall, it was a beautiful story. I really loved the fmc! One of the most likable main characters I've read in a long time. And some plot twists were great! I didn't see a lot of things coming and I appreciate that in a book:)

Plot- 2/5🔆

I got swindled again by a booktok reader. They posted the whole 'they asked for the sign for love and I spelled your name' quote so I thought, wow that's sweet. And I looked at reviews and decided this has to be a good read, more than 200,000 5 star reviews! Boy was I wrong.

The best part about this book, and added another star for me, was the absolute crazy drama and backstories of the characters. I actually loved that and was laughing out loud at the craziness throughout the book. It reminded me of those bad but good old ABC tv shows that feel nostalgic in all of the worst ways.

The actual "love story" of this book ended up feeling icky honestly. Girl goes and slightly stalks a vulnerable unwell man in order to train him how to sex her up right, because she is also mentally unwell. Yuck. The ratings in this make me lose more faith in humanity.

I am really struggling with this one. It is a well loved book, but it was not for me. There was so much packed in, it took away from it. The characters were draining. Once I know they were in their early twenties, it made sense as to how they were acting. I think this could have been better done, but it lacked in big areas. It gives us background where we don't need it, and lacks it where we do. It doesn't really address the real problem. And the ASL did not feel authentic. Our problems get solved by running away?

The writing style very much fits with the young adult genre, despite some explicit scenes. However, the character development is strong and the two main characters equally lovable for different reasons.

The book touches on some important topics without trivialising them. If you enjoy a good love story then it’s not one to be missed.

I regret holding out on reading this book for so long. First off i absolutely adore both Bree and Archer. I adore their strength and their chemistry. Their backstories are so heart breaking. I felt the kicking feet, toe curling and blushing happiness, The “i wanna punch something” madness, and the absolute sobbing sadness. This book was everything and it’s easily a 5 star for me!

But why did Mia have to include “ilu” in their texts?? that was the only thing i actually cringed at.
