As per usual, I'm a huge fan of K.A. Tucker's writing and this book was no exception.
The story of a camp romance has been told many times but Tucker makes you feel like you are reading this concept for the first time. Although this might be jarring for some, I really appreciated the back and forth between present day and the past at camp. As someone who grew up going to summer camp and fantasized about being a camp counsellor when I was younger I always enjoy reading about camp life. The one thing for me that was missing was the actual romance. It was clear when they were younger why Piper and Kyle liked each other but I was missing their connection when they got older. I wanted more deep conversations and things continued to feel very surface level and immature. I was not a big fan of either Piper or Tucker, both seemed too immature for their ages. Tucker usually shines with her lovable secondary characters and this novel was consistent with that. However, I wish we got to see MORE of them. I found all of the secondary characters to be more likeable than the main ones especially Jeremy.
The book does feel like a young novel rather than a contemporary romance making it a very easy and cute summer read.

I did enjoy this, but I’m not a big fan of second chance romance or duel timeline. I honestly liked both time lines, but would have like it more if it was just one. I did like Piper as a character and I liked her friendship and family dynamics. I did really like Kyle as well. We found out something that happened and it did shock me because I did not see it coming. Overall this was cute and funny and a little serious, but nothing amazing.

If you like books like Love and Other Words, Seven Days in June, and/or People We Meet on Vacation, then you’ll probably enjoy this read. It’s a second chance romance between childhood friends to lovers. Flashbacks take you back to the summer Kyle and Piper fell in love at camp, while they reunite for the first time in 13 years in the present day. Not a perfect read, but it’s a story that feels like summer and makes you love the instant, spontaneous, and enduring love between Kyle and Piper.
