Real rating: 4.5 stars

Man, for a while, this book sat at 4 stars; it was really good, i was invested to see what was next, but then that climax hit and you see how everything ties together so well, I have to up it to 4.5 stars. Highly recommend the audiobook!!

Quick read with a powerful message. The plot twist was something I truly didn’t see coming and made the book quite interesting. If people truly believe racism is not still Prevalent in America, take a read.

“I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality” - MLK 1964

“People often learned more from getting an undeserved pass than they would from being punished” - Manny’s dad Chapter 12

“People need the craziness in the world to make some sort of sense to them. That idiot pundit would rather believe you and Manny were thugs, than believe a 20 year veteran would make a snap judgement based on skin color. He identifies with the cop. If the cop is capable of murder it means he is capable of the same. He can’t accept that.”

“These people need to justify the cops actions. They need to believe you are a bad guy who got what he deserved in order for their world to keep spinning as it always has”

“You can’t change how other people think and act, but you’re in full control of you.

“If nothing in the world ever changes, what kind of man will you be?” - Doctor Dray Chapter 19 in conversation with Justyce

Wow. This book was incredible! Very deep characters, and it taught a very important lesson. If you liked this, I would recommend The Hate U Give
