This was ok. I didn't feel that connected to the family members and their stories. I also don't feel like their characters progressed or developed as a result of what was happening which was disappointing. It felt like that was where the story was going.

I just finished The Shell Seekers by Rosamunde Pilcher and I’m speechless. But I want to say a few words about this book so I can come back. And I can remember all these feelings again.

This story is touching and beautiful. And it made me utterly heartbroken and sad but also grateful and charmed. So perfectly, so heavenly written, with every single word in its very own place. It was one of the best book I have ever read. Yes, that’s a big thing to say but I stand with this statement.

My heart goes for Penelope, and I feel enormous gratitude for everything and everyone I have in my life.

This was a challenging book to finish. The characters fall really flat, they are all very fixed and stereotypical, the plot doesn’t really move in any interesting direction, and so many problematic biased views and descriptions around gender, religion and class. The characters do not evolve or learn, and they end just like they started. I felt like I was watching a soap opera - tons of family drama, no growth is seen im any of the “villains” of the story, and a happy ending for those who are deemed “good”. I wouldn’t recommend it.

I went into it with low expectations and no idea what it was about and finished loving it. A bit long-winded but a beautiful and interesting cast of characters and an overall lovely listen.
