“Tell me Muse… of Orphia and Eurydicius.”
I have - and forever will be - a sucker for a Greek Mythology retelling but this book spoke to me in a way none other that I have read has done. Told from the perspective of our heroine Orphia, this novel tells the tale of a love so powerful that not even Hades could stand in its way.
But somehow it manages to be even more than that. Not only is this a beautiful retelling of the story of Orpheus and Eurydice, but the gender bending of the titular characters allows for a stronger message to flow through: a message of the women who had been silenced.
I tweeted earlier when I was still on page 70 that I already knew this would be a five star read for me and I wasn’t wrong. This novel will live in my mind forever and I feel will carry the story of Orphia and Eurydicius with me for the rest of my days.
