Mixed feelings on this one. The first chapter had me hooked, but the plot/character (&family???) dynamics made me pause. I think it ties together pretty well though, but not sure that I'd ever pick it back up

I stuck with this book longer than I would have had it been a different author. I am a huge Jenn Bennett fan! I love her writing, but I just didn't care for the characters or story in this one.

Ohhhhhh. What a wonderful, lovely, heartbreaking, uplifting, real book. And the music! My gawd, the music!!! I also really really loved the different family dynamics and the depth of Fen. Even the way Jane feels so insecure in his shadow. It’s just all very real. And I loved it so much.
I would say 3.5 maybe 4 stars. I wanted a cheesy romance which this did a great job of but I struggled to like Fen in the beginning. the haunted boy thing was really weird to me and I feel he pushed his problems on jane way too much. other than that pretty ok read
“The heart is a big, dumb muscle, Mama.”
I have loved everything I’ve read by Jenn Bennett. This was no exception.
I wish Goodreads let you rate half stars, because my final rating for this one would be 4.5 stars and only because there was one topic in the story that I am not a fan of… it went there and it’s something I do not condone, so yeah… it put a dent in an almost flawless read for me. Other than that, I truly enjoyed this one.
I’m a huge fan of Fen! He’s definitely an intense character, exaggeration is too a small of a word for how he expresses himself and his feelings, but maybe that’s why I love him so much. He just has SO MANY FEELINGS and I feel that on a personal level. He was an absolutely wonderful character.
Jane was a very mellow character. She didn’t stand out in the story as much as I would have expected her to. Even though she narrates most of it, I felt like Fen stole the show. But I still loved Jane, she had a good head on her shoulders (most of the time).
The story itself was cute. There were lots of details that made everything feel a bit chaotic at moments, but that’s what I loved about it. Everything was messy, like life is sometimes.
It was a fun read. I love how Jenn always adds something extra to her books. The chapter titles for this one were all songs and I had a fun time making a playlist out of all the titles and listening to the songs which tied in with whatever was going on in that specific chapter. It’s over on Spotify, if you’d like to check it out:

If you love music and enjoy a quick, semi angsty, but also fluffy contemporary read, then pick this one up!

I love Jenn Bennett's writing and will continue to read anything she produces, and while I've seen the 90s remake of Sabrina make times...this wasn't for me.
1. I hate a love triangle.
2. I hate cheating.
3. I'm not sure why Velvet exists as a character, except to be an addiction foil to Eddie.
4. Sorrynotsorry, Fen is a creep.
5. Eddie is the worst.
6. Jane is a total meh character.
All that aside, again, I'll still read whatever JB comes out with, but this one won't be on the re-read list.

This was a quick read for me. I liked how the author wrote about Jane’s aphasia. There were lots of other little things I liked about the characters and I loved the pup!
