I thought this book was very poorly written, sorry James Patterson. I did not feel connected to the characters at all and the storyline was so choppy that a lot of things were not completed. Lame book but I'm sure there are those out there that will enjoy it.

Okay, so I picked this up from the public library near me so that I could fill a void that was left in me after Maximum Ride and I can tell ya, it fills that void. I totally loved how Whit and Wisty discovered their powers and grew stronger. It was such a page turner, I spent hours in my school library, curled up on a loveseat with my ipod lulling me into the story.

The story is split between Whit and Wisty Allgood a brother and sister who live in a totalatarian state that bans almost everything, except what's approved and whats really approved is the cult of The One. The One who is The One is the head of this group and he has strange power over people. Power that he's abusing. With strange powers of their own the two are coming to the fore under pressure.

The twins seem to have a lot of power without a lot of backlash to themselves, they seem to accept the powers easily without any fear or wonder and their voices don't seem to be all that different (their stories are told in alternative chapters). My favourite part of the book: the ending piece where they have an extract from the manual condemning previous music and fiction with thinly disguised books from our world. I found the characters largely overpowerful and without depth.

Ok, so I only read about the first quarter of the book, but it seems like a poor man's version of another book that I just read. Maybe I'm still in mourning over someone taking my library book and that's biasing my opinion, but I've moved on to antoher book.

Patterson books, by design, are quick reads. Chapters fly by in short chunks to inspire the reader into "one more chapter". In this instance, however, the fast pace I felt really undercut whatever plot there was.

This, at times, felt like a bunch of YA buzzwords were thrown into a crock pot and left to cook, and what came out had very little flavor or seasonings to it to make it special. It's fast, that's for sure. But I'm not entirely sure what the *point* was of what I just finished. Was there a plot? Kind of. Was it coherent? Not really. Where do we go from here? I'm only mildly interested in finding out, to be honest.
