This was one of the most fun read alouds we have done yet. Great humor, great adventure and really fun twists/mystery along the way.

Such fun. Read aloud to Gwen (some John, some Alec, and Will listened even though he already read it) and she never wanted me to stop. This was longer (200 p), cute pictures in each chapter, and a fun mystery that was actually mysterious. I did not like the Claude series by this author so came to this one a little skeptical, but so pleasantly surprised.

3.5 stars, rounded down

This book started really strong - it was funny and cute and easy to understand for my 4 year old. Then it started using words like "idiot" and "stupid", which I don't appreciate in an early chapter book - I recognize it's not geared towards 4 year-olds, but the language and story in the beginning did not match the language and story at the end.

loved the illustrations and use of coloured pages, a beautiful book and eye catching for readers of all ages. I didn't think the text was equally outstanding, but the main characters of Mr Penguin and his spider friend Colin were engaging and I hope the book will find a large audience.

I read this with my 7 year old who is a bit of a penguin obsessive! It was a really fun adventure story, my favourite character was Colin the spider who really made spiders seem loveable! We have another one to read too

So funny, I love the characters and the adventure is fun. Lots of humor in the text and the illustrations really add to the context.
