I don't like procedurals. Put CSI Whatever on the TV, I'll yawn. The Mentalist or Lie to Me, I'll yell at the screen like a programmer watching The Net. Even Agatha Christie - I'm sure Miss Marple was responsible for a swathe of death in 1920s England. It takes a lot to make me want to pay any attention to something that even smells of murder mystery.[return][return]This collection of short stories by Pati Nagle, all based around the adventures of an genetically modified detective tabby cat, didn't have the hook I might have needed to care. Sure, the trappings of science fiction are there, animal uplift, a space station, megacorps, but if you scratch the surface all that's left is a set of fairly standard cop stories.[return][return]The cat in question is no more than a human pretending to be a cat and the other animals are merely ciphers, the universe is barely sketched out and the much more interesting story of the societal organisation of humanity (and uplifted animals) in space is all but ignored. [return][return]This time, the future's so bright, it feels like 1980.[return][return]http://bit.ly/pJf0l2

This book has been sitting on my shelves for years and years and now that I’ve challenged myself to read some of the oldies that have been collecting dust, I decided to pick up The Loop. I really don’t know what I was expecting, seeing as this isn’t something that I normally read. I’m usually more into the horror or scary stories rather than romance but I love wolves to death and I assume that’s why I purchased this book. Little did I know; I would come to love and adore this novel.

The Loop follows the story of Helen, a wolf biologist trying to track and save a wolf pack from the cattle ranchers of Hope, Montana.
Nicholas Evans did such an amazing job writing this novel and allowing you to get to know and feel for the characters, even the ‘bad’ ones, before the real story started. There was so much character development in this book, but it wasn’t boring and it really made you even more invested into the story.

Not only were the human characters deeply developed, but so were the wolves. You learned their personalities and the way they hunted, mated and lived together. Not only that, even Hope, the town setting, had a back story hundreds of years old. But Evans managed to keep it short and sweet so that you were more and more invested into this book.
I felt so many emotions while reading ranging from heartwarming love, to anger and then to heartbreak. If you really want the feels to get you, this is the book for you.

The Loop has something for just about every reader and I highly recommend everyone reads it.

This is one of my favorites by Evans. I love the characters and the setting. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because the ending was a bit too predictable for me. Excellent read.

I really really enjoyed this book. More than I thought. I read this book in one full day and it was so satisfying that I didn't lapse a lot of time between chapters. Sadly, I've had this book for 2 years, but just never had the urge to pick it up. But I'm so glad when I finally did.

After my initial confusion of who was related to who (I felt it was badly explained in the first few chapters and had to skim back to try and work it out) I actually felt it was quite a good read. I hadn’t realised wolves were quite so hated by ranchers and although it’s easy for me say ‘it’s just one cow the wolf has killed’ I understand this is the ranchers livelihood. The characters are portrayed well and although I can understand why people felt uncomfortable about Helens relationship with Luke - he was 18 and she was 10 years older. I found the ending a bit to sweet for liking but other than that a good read.

It was okay. Same themes as Prodigal Summer but not nearly as good.
