There's only so much manic pixie dream girl who ran away with a circus I can take in my life.

After reading Sea of Tranquility and Station Eleven, I was quite excited for another book by Emily St. John Mandel. However, I had to apply effort to finish this. The characters were semi complex and the plot had many moving parts, but I found many of the elements to be tiresome. Lilia is very much a manic pixie dream girl, Eli is a bit hopeless, Christopher is weirdly and wildly obsessive… a lot of things just didn’t add up or make sense. The characters’ choices often  left me frustrated and wondering why something was mentioned.

This book was very nearly perfect. I loved the character of michaela and lelia aswell as Simon. I loved her dad until the accident happened. However the one bit that knocked the score down is how stupid eli was, I cannot get over that.

Fabuloous tale, as always. Just barely barably sad, though.
