Nora Roberts is a fantastic writer I’m never disappointed in her work. This book started out great. It’s a story of a high intelligent teenage girl who finally decides to rebel a little. But that one night of rebellion changes her life and she spends the next 10 years on the run and in hiding. The middle section slows down a ton your introduced to a small town chief of police who’s curious by nature and a shy women who has something to hide. I loved watching their relationship develop. My only disappointment was the ending it felt rushed and I was left unsatisfied.

I wanted to like this book. I liked the premise for sure! Abigail is on the run from the Russian Mafia she was prepared to testify against before they attempted to kill her, while Brooks is the Chief of Police in the town she's hiding in. While I really appreciate the attention to detail on her background, the book drags on incredibly long and its sequenced in an odd way. The book spends like 200 pages on side plots and unnecessary povs. This book just didn't need anything but the main plot point, which is the hiding from the mafia thing. Also Brooks and his family tend to force her out of her comfort zone even after knowing why she does what she does. He just rubbed me the wrong way a lot which doesn't bode well for a love interest. Abigail is a badass though.

A great mystery and my favourite Nora Roberts novel! One of my favourite books ever!

Love the mystery and the romance and the strong woman that this is centred on. It gave me everything I wanted in a book without being kitsch, which I greatly appreciated.
